Today, Dr. Doherty is a board-certified Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility specialist as well as a board-certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist. He serves as Lead Physician at RMA’s Somerset office and Director of Third Party Reproduction, where he is recognized for his compassionate approach and advanced expertise in fertility care.
Dr. Doherty earned his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School before completing his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yale New Haven Hospital. During his residency, he received multiple honors for his work in robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery and continued his training with a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Yale School of Medicine.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Doherty has remained deeply involved in reproductive medicine research and education throughout his career. His work has been published in respected peer-reviewed journals including Fertility and Sterility, The FASEB Journal, and the American Journal of Physiology Endocrinology and Metabolism. He has also contributed to medical textbooks focused on gynecologic surgery and assisted reproduction and is a nationally invited speaker on topics including endometrial receptivity and the impact of uterine fibroids on fertility.
As both a physician and a parent, Dr. Doherty brings a uniquely personal understanding to the emotional journey many fertility patients experience. His firsthand appreciation for the challenges and rewards of parenthood continues to shape the empathetic, patient-centered care he provides every day.
Dr. Doherty specializes in helping patients navigate a wide range of fertility and reproductive health challenges, including recurrent pregnancy loss, uterine fibroids, uterine abnormalities, and fertility preservation through egg and embryo freezing. Through every stage of care, Dr. Doherty remains committed to providing personalized treatment plans and helping patients feel supported, informed, and hopeful throughout their fertility journey.
