Dr. Robert F. Heary of the Montclair Neuroscience Institute has been reviewed and approved based on merit by NJ Top Docs for 2024. Dr. Heary is board certified in neurological surgery and specializes in revision spine surgery, spine and spinal cord injury, spine and spinal cord tumors, and spinal deformity.
He earned his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and completed a residency in Neurological Surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark. Following his neurosurgical residency, Dr. Heary completed an orthopaedic spine fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Heary has served as the Vice President of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and serves on several other nationally recognized boards and committees. He is the only neurosurgeon in the US who has been the President of both the Cervical Spine Research Society (CSRS) and the Lumbar Spine Research Society (LSRS). He has also been the Chair of the AANS/CNS Joint Section on Disorders of the Spine & Peripheral Nerves.
In addition, Dr. Heary has authored 165 peer-reviewed journal articles, over 100 abstracts, 70 book chapters, and 4 textbooks. He has also been on the faculty of over 300 instructional courses at national neurosurgery meetings.
