Dr. Paul Abend, founder of Sanãre Center for Integrative Medicine, has been reviewed and approved as a 2026 NJ Top Doc. As Chief Medical Officer and partner of United Clinical Group, Dr. Abend has played a pivotal role in the organization’s growth and success. Under his leadership, the practice has expanded to serve more than 50,000 patients across over 12 office locations. Despite this growth, Dr. Abend remains deeply committed to ensuring that every patient receives personalized, compassionate care throughout their treatment journey.
Dr. Abend began his medical training at UMDNJ–New Jersey School of Osteopathic Medicine, where he built a strong foundation in patient-centered medicine. He went on to serve as Chief Resident in both the Department of Physical Medicine, Rehabilitation, and Pain Medicine, as well as the Department of Family Medicine at Rutgers–Robert Wood Johnson Hospital. Further advancing his expertise, he completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Rutgers–Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, gaining specialized insight into sports-related injuries, performance, and rehabilitation.
Throughout his career, Dr. Abend has been recognized for his exceptional contributions to medicine. In 2021, he received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Rowan Osteopathic Medical School for his impactful work in Autism. In 2019, he was honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award from Drew University for his professional achievements. His longstanding dedication to Autism research and care has also earned him the Jefferson Award for New Jersey State and Regional recognition, as well as the prestigious Dr. Margaret Bauman Award, presented by a Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Abend remains highly engaged in healthcare leadership and innovation. He serves as Chairman of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and as Medical Director of Inpatient and Outpatient Rehabilitation Services at RWJ Barnabas Hospital at Rahway, where he continues to influence the delivery of high-quality, forward-thinking care.
Dr. Abend also serves as President of Union County Surgical Center and consults with multiple private equity healthcare organizations, further demonstrating his leadership, strategic insight, and commitment to advancing modern medical practice.
