What makes Dr. Willis’s approach especially unique is his firsthand understanding of athletics and performance. A former collegiate athlete himself, Dr. Willis attended Dartmouth College, where he graduated cum laude in biology while competing on three consecutive Ivy League championship football teams and playing varsity lacrosse. That experience continues to shape the way he cares for athletes today, giving him a unique perspective on both the physical and emotional demands of recovery.
Dr. Willis earned his medical degree with honors (Alpha Omega Alpha) from Columbia University before completing his orthopaedic surgery residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery/Cornell Medical Center in New York City, one of the nation’s premier institutions for orthopaedic care. He went on to complete two prestigious fellowships, first in hand, elbow, and upper extremity surgery at the Mayo Clinic, followed by a second in shoulder, knee, and sports medicine surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery, where he trained alongside the physicians caring for the New York Giants and New York Mets.
Today, Dr. Willis remains deeply connected to the world of sports medicine. He currently serves as the Associate Team Orthopedic Surgeon for the New York Jets and as Head Team Physician for Drew University and Delbarton School, helping athletes safely recover and perform at their highest level.
Beyond the operating room, Dr. Willis is also passionate about education, research, and advancing the field of orthopaedics. He serves as Director of Sports Medicine Research and Fellowship Education at Tri-County Orthopedics, is Chair of Medical Education for Atlantic Sports Health at Morristown Medical Center, and teaches as part of the Sports Medicine Fellowship faculty at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.
