In the United States, June is designated as PTSD Awareness Month and June 27th is the specific day designated for National PTSD Awareness.   Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition experienced by 7- 8% of the population. About 8 million American adults will have PTSD during any given year – which is only a small portion of those who’ve suffered through a traumatic event.   A traumatic event is defined as any experience that threatens your life or safety, or if you witness something horrible happening to someone else.   For example, here are a few types of traumatic events that could lead to development of PTSD: Military combat Sexual Assault Physical Assault Child Abuse Serious Car Accidents Natural Disasters (Hurricanes, Fires, Tornadoes, Floods, Earthquakes, Etc.)
