Dr. Uzma N. Hasan has been reviewed and approved by NJ Top Docs based on merit for 2025. Dr. Hasan, is a dual board-certified pediatric infectious disease specialist and one of New Jersey’s foremost experts in pediatric infection prevention and post-COVID recovery. She currently serves as the Regional Director of Pediatric Infectious Diseases for Northern New Jersey at RWJBarnabas Health, Division Director of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, and Medical Director of the Pediatric Post-COVID Clinic at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center. In addition, she holds an academic appointment as Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School.
Dr. Hasan earned her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) from The Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan, where she also worked as a research assistant prior to coming to the United States. She completed her pediatrics residency at the Children’s Hospital of the Cleveland Clinic, followed by a fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. During her training, she was recognized for her excellence in teaching and leadership, receiving the Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital House Staff Award for Excellence in Teaching and the A. Todd Davis Award for Exemplary Physician in Training at Lurie Children’s Hospital, among other distinctions.
Dr. Hasan began her faculty career at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in 2011, where she has served as Division Chief of Pediatric Infectious Diseases since 2013. In her leadership roles, she has been instrumental in developing infection prevention programs, pediatric antimicrobial stewardship initiatives, and post-COVID recovery protocols that have been recognized across the RWJBarnabas Health system. Her commitment to clinical excellence and patient safety has earned her multiple honors, including being named a NJ Top Doctor several times between 2015 and 2025, the CCHESS Award for Exemplary Physician, Attending Physician of the Year at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, and NJBiz Physician of the Year in 2025.
A respected educator and mentor, Dr. Hasan has been teaching infectious disease core lectures to residents since 2011 and continues to play a central role in medical education at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center and Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. She has also been a panelist and invited speaker at national forums, including the U.S. News & World Report COVID Long Haul Forum for Pediatrics.
