RWJ Hospital: Fitness and Wellness Center Groundbreaking in New Brunswick, NJ

RWJUH, the City of New Brunswick, the New Brunswick Development Corporation and The Fresh Grocer recently hosted a groundbreaking celebration for a new Welness Plaza in downtown New Brunswick.

This exiciting project includes the 62,000 square-foot RWJ Fitness and Wellness Center; a 49,000 square-foot grocery store operated by The Fresh Grocer and a 1,275 space parking garage above retail space that will be linked directly to the New Brunswick train stating.

The site is schedulted to open in September 2012.

The RWJ Fitness and Welness Center will feature:

  • Latest Group Fitness Classes
  • Comprehensive Welness Education Programs
  • Physical Thrapy
  • Professional Personl Training

Financing was provided through Wells Fargo’s New Market Tax Credit for the development.The development is part of an effore to rehabilitate News Brunswick, a city that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has deemed a food desert.Ferren Urban Renewal Associates is the developer, which is partnership between New Brunswick Development Corp. and Pennrose Properties.

“This project created 350 construction jobs and will bring about 370 permanent jobs. It will bring to downtown New Brunswick a high quality supermarket in the form of Fresh Grocer, something that has not been done in decades,” said Christopher D. Rafaro, director of the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders.
