Dr. Bakhos grew up in Monmouth County and left New Jersey to pursue his undergraduate degree at The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He returned home to get his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, where he graduated as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He then completed his orthopaedic residency at Tufts Medical Center in Boston and furthered his sub-specialty training by completing the Otto E. Aufranc Fellowship in adult reconstructive surgery at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, which is one of the top orthopaedic and joint replacement centers in the country. There he received extensive training in complex and revision hip and knee replacements.
Dr. Bakhos dedicates his time to expanding his field with research, particularly on topics such as soft tissue preserving total hip arthroplasty, the reduction of blood transfusions after joint replacement, and the minimization of risks of total hip dislocation. Dr. Bakhos’ research work has been presented at a number of national meetings.
While Dr. Bakhos is a dedicated surgeon, he will forever be a student who’s always looking to add to his surgical skills and techniques. He regularly attends meetings where he looks to integrate the latest developments into his practice and bring them to his patients.
Dr. Bakhos looks forward to improving his patient’s quality of life with a treatment plan specifically tailored to their unique needs. He believes that most patients don’t need surgery to achieve their goals and he works to ensure that patients are always involved in the decision making about their care.
Finally, Dr. Bakhos is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and the International Congress for Joint Reconstruction.
