Dr. Nina Badaan Shinway of Center for Specialized Psychology has been reviewed and approved by NJ Top Docs based on merit for 2025. A licensed clinical psychologist in New Jersey, New York, Florida, and Vermont, she brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her practice. Dr. Shinway specializes in treating women impacted by domestic violence, childhood abuse, and reproductive or female-specific mental health challenges. As an expert in trauma therapy, she tailors her approach to each individual, drawing on evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Prolonged Exposure. Her work focuses on helping patients process and heal from painful life experiences while gaining insight into how trauma affects current emotional and behavioral functioning. Dr. Shinway’s patients often leave treatment with a renewed sense of self-empowerment, inner strength, and emotional stability.
She earned both her M.S. and Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University, where she trained under nationally recognized experts in trauma and domestic violence. Dr. Shinway also holds a strong foundation in forensic psychology, having completed her B.A. and M.A. in Forensic Psychology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York. Beyond clinical practice, she serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at Nova Southeastern University, where she teaches a graduate-level course on Child Maltreatment and Trauma Assessment and Intervention to students pursuing a specialization in trauma care.
