The Pediatric Orthopedic Center
The Pediatric Orthopedic Center is the premier NJ hub for pediatric orthopedics, with four offices throughout northern NJ. Having been the leader in pediatric orthopedics in this area for over 25 years, we are the largest and most award-winning pediatric orthopedic practice in the tri-state area.
Our facilities are proud to boast eight pediatric orthopedists and a pediatric foot and ankle specialist, all of whom have been board certified and/or fellowship trained at nationally and internationally renowned programs, as well as a pediatric orthopedic trained physician assistant.
Dr. Mark Rieger
Mark Rieger, MD is a board certified pediatric orthopedic surgeon and the founding partner and senior physician at The Pediatric Orthopedic Center. His expertise in trauma, sports medicine, arthroscopy, scoliosis, clubfoot and hip disorders is matched only by his compassion for his patients. His knee and shoulder arthroscopy skills earned him recognition as one of the “Top 100 Minimally Invasive Surgeons in the Tri-State Area” by New York magazine.
He earned his medical degree at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and completed his surgical internship and orthopedic surgical residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Dr. Rieger was a pediatric orthopedic fellow at the internationally acclaimed Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children and has served as Chief of Pediatric Orthopedics at Morristown Medical Center. He is an Assistant Professor at NYU Langone Medical Center, where he performs scoliosis surgery as a member of an internationally recognized spine center.
Dr. Rieger is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America (POSNA), the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS), and the Orthopedic Research Society (ORS). Because of this expertise, he is a frequently requested speaker and lecture extensively to physicians, nurses, physical therapists, trainers and parents to educate and pass on his experience and knowledge to the next generation.

Dr. Samara Friedman
Dr. Samara Friedman is a board certified pediatric orthopedist with subspecialty interest in pediatric and adolescent trauma, growth deformities and treatment of sports injuries, including arthroscopic treatment of shoulder, elbow, knee and ankle injuries.
She earned her medical degree from SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine in Stony Brook, New York after completing her Bachelor of Science at Cornell University. Dr. Friedman completed her residency in orthopedic surgery at Long Island Jewish Medical Center before becoming a pediatric orthopedic surgery fellow at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
A NYSCA Certified coach, Dr. Friedman spends time coaching the Millburn Short Hills Youth Baseball team. She is also part of the “Live From” program at Liberty Science Center, where she lectures regularly about orthopedic surgery as students view her surgical procedures. Dr. Friedman has been recognized several times by area publications as a “Top Doc.”
In her spare time, she likes to travel and spend time with her two kids. She enjoys photography and baking creative birthday cakes. She also coaches little league baseball and volunteers at the Liberty Science Center.

Dr. Mark E Solomon
Dr. Mark E. Solomon is board certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He founded Advanced Foot & Ankle Surgeons of Cedar Knolls in 2003.
As a leading foot and ankle specialist, Dr. Solomon serves as the podiatrist for the New York Jets Professional Football Team. He has delivered several lectures at leading institutions and businesses. Recently, the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons invited Dr. Solomon to present two submissions at the annual conference in 2017.
As a part of a new generation of foot and ankle specialists, he is trained in the newest and latest treatments and techniques. He is one of a few hundred physicians worldwide who is trained to perform a state-of-the-art technique to help restore sensation to individuals suffering from neuropathy.
Although practicing a philosophy of conservative care, Dr. Solomon has performed hundreds of surgeries including those for bunions, hammertoes, aggravated nerves/neuromas, heel pains, sport medicine injuries, trauma, and diabetic limb salvage.
He utilizes the newest most advanced technologies and procedures available and advanced pain management techniques. A respected veteran in his field, Dr. Solomon’s experience is valued for second opinions by his colleagues.

Dr. David Lin
David Y. Lin, MD is a board certified pediatric orthopedic surgeon with subspecialty interest in pediatric and adolescent trauma, arthroscopic treatment of sports injuries, and limb deformities, including clubfeet.
He earned his medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, where he also completed his surgical internship. Upon successful completion of his orthopedic surgical training at Saint Vincent/Catholic Medical Center in New York City, he spent an additional year training younger orthopedic surgeons as chief resident.
Dr. Lin received advanced training in a pediatric orthopedic fellowship at the internationally renowned Campbell Clinic in Memphis, TN, where he gained vital training and experience in pediatric trauma care and pediatric sports medicine.
He returned back home to New Jersey in 2002 to join Dr. Mark Rieger at our main campus in Cedar Knolls, NJ. He has been a senior physician partner with the group since 2004 and is proud to be providing care with great staff and partners at The Pediatric Orthopedic Center in the Cedar Knolls and Wayne campuses.
Dr. Lin has specialized expertise in repairing broken bones, managing overuse injuries, treating meniscal injuries, repairing labral tears and reconstructing ACL tears in children and adolescents. He enjoys combining and utilizing his electrical engineering background from Cornell University to optimize and advance musculoskeletal care, healing and recovery.
As a fellow of the AAOS and an active member of the POSNA, he is a strong advocate for orthopedic education and continues to teach physicians, residents, trainers, physical therapists and students throughout the region.

Dr. Tamir Bloom
Dr. Tamir Bloom is a board certified pediatric orthopedic surgeon who treats children and young adults with a wide spectrum of musculoskeletal problems, including upper and lower extremity deformities, hip dysplasia, fractures, sports injuries and complex foot disorders, such as clubfeet. He has a special interest in neuromuscular conditions such as cerebral palsy and spina bifida.
After receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Bloom earned his medical degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. His residency in orthopedic surgery was completed at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He then completed a year of fellowship training in pediatric orthopedics and scoliosis at the Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego under the direct tutelage of Drs. Scott Mubarak, Peter Newton and Dennis Wenger—all past presidents of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA).
Dr. Bloom was an assistant professor at the Department of Pediatric Orthopaedics at the Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School from 2007 to 2014. He joined The Pediatric Orthopedic Center in 2014 and is proud to be providing care with great staff and partners in the Springfield, Jersey City and Cedar Knolls campuses.
He is a strong advocate for orthopedic education and continues to teach and train orthopedic residents and medical students at RWJBarnabas Health Jersey City Medical Center.
Dr. Bloom is a two-time U.S. National Champion, two-time Pan-American Games silver medalist and a two-time Olympian, representing Team USA in fencing during the 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympic Games. As a former elite athlete, he has unique insight on how sports injuries, both acute and chronic, and orthopedic surgeries affect developing athletes.
He has been published in well-respected journals such as the Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics and Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research. He has co-authored several book chapters, as well as an online reference monograph for British Medical Journal titled “Torsion of the Lower Extremities in Children.”
