Family Health and Wellness Services
Family Health & Wellness Services (FHWS) is a group practice located in Summit, NJ. For the past 15 years, we have served adolescents, young adults, families, and adults facing a variety of difficulties in their lives. Common focuses in treatment include helping patients to manage their emotions effectively, establish and maintain healthy relationships, and to create and reach life goals.
We specialize in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), a treatment approach designed to help people to effectively regulate their emotions, to cope with stress, and to create stability and a sense of well-being in their lives. DBT is well researched and has been demonstrated to help adolescents, young adults and adults facing a variety of stressors and levels of distress. Rachel Gingold, Ph.D., C-PD
Dr. Gingold is a licensed New Jersey psychologist who received her Ph.D. in developmental psychology from Yeshiva University in 2003. Her career has always focused on adolescent development and adolescent resiliency.
Dr. Gingold’s graduate work began with a master’s degree in counseling psychology in Boston at Northeastern University. It was during that time that she was trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) at the Women’s Treatment Program at McLean Hospital. She then completed a two-year marriage and family therapy residency program at Harvard Medical School and Blanton-Peale Counseling Center.
While moving from Boston to New York, she also shifted her focus from clinical work to research. Dr. Gingold coordinated a large five-year research project studying changes in adolescent relationships over time and in identity development at New York University. She published in the Journal of Social Issues and in the New Directions for Child and Adolescent Development. She later went on to teach and work in administrative positions in New Jersey before opening Family Health and Wellness Services with Dr. Loonin in 2005.

I just wanted to take the time to thank you for everything you have done for me over thee past 3 years. Without your help and guidance I would have never made it this far. You’ve pushed me when I needed to be pushed and supported me when I needed support and I can not thank you enough.
Firstly, I would like to thank you for EVERYTHING… I am at a loss for words where to start, but I hope that a whole-hearted thanks encompasses the totality of your work. Without your generous support and patient manner, I know I would not be standing where I am today; and I am so grateful for that.
Through our hard work, I feel that you have given me the strength to accept what is and the power to change what is not – a reality that’s not just hard to grapple with, but even more difficult in practice. But, I have seen progress; you have brought to light the many challenges I faced and overcame, highlighting my success every step of the way. This means so much to me as it allows me to feel a sense of freedom, awareness, and power that I have never experienced before.
For very many years, I had not a clue who (or where) I was, and now it feels as if I am found. I have found my center and that place of wise mind – an invaluable connection you have helped me establish with myself.
I must admit, I am saddened and somewhat fearful to leave the comfort of support of your office, but I suppose I have to trust that you will not leave (in any capacity). It is good to know that you will continue your support because I still fear starting over with anyone. I definitely think this safe support system will get me through trying times (which I expect there to be many, at first). Thank you again for all that you have done. I owe so much of my current success to you and I undoubtedly will contribute future success to you and the relationship you have helped me build with myself. I can not wait for the day when I share (and feel) the many positive experiences and success stories in my life, because not only has it taken forever to get to that place, but also because it is time and I am ready!
To the woman who saved me from myself; a blessing in disguise… I remember the first time I met you a few years back, and now has our connection grown since then! that girl back then, the girl who once had no hope, no goals, and no idea who she was… I’ve seen myself grow and I can finally say I’m ready for what’s ahead of me. I have a sense of confidence today and you are to thank for that.
You’ve helped me find myself through the tears, rages, and finding hope – I am proud of who I am today. I’ve learned skills to cope and find different ways to deal with my emotions. Although we didn’t go the planned route, I’ve truly learned so much from our sessions. The time with you is something I look forward to, although I didn’t always feel that way, haha. You’re someone any person is lucky to have in their life. I’ve never met such an amazing person, someone who really gets me and never gave up on me.
