Paul Abend, D.O., FAAPM&R, has over 25 years of experience in Physiatry (a medical doctor who specializes in physical medicine, rehabilitation and pain medicine). His focus is non-surgical spinal treatments, sports injuries, post cancer survivorship, balance and neuropathy.

- Dr. Abend is a graduate of UMDNJ- New Jersey School of Osteopathic Medicine where he served as student body president.
- He was a Resident and Chief Resident, in the Department of Physical Medicine, Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Hospital.
- He was a Resident and Chief Resident in the Department of Family Medicine at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Hospital.
- Additionally, he completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship in the Department of Family Medicine at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

- After receiving his board certification in 1995, he has successfully completed the re-certification written boards every 10 years (2005 and 2015).

- He has been a Preceptor since the inception of the Kessler Institute Musculoskeletal Pain Management Fellowship Program – training Fellows in Interventional Pain Management for the last 8 years.
- He is a frequent lecturer to the medical and hospital staff, as well as the community at large, on various medical rehabilitation and pain management topics.

Non Surgical Orthopedics and Sports Medicine (Physiatry /Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation) focuses on the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal and neurologic conditions. This specialty treats conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles and tendons. Dr’s Abend and Mejia perform a comprehensive history and physical exam, electromyographic (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCS), and review imaging studies (MRI, CT etc.) to make a correct diagnosis and create a successful treatment plan.

- Launched an International and National Autism Medical Assessment and Treatment Center of New Jersey (aka: The Autism Think Tank NJ). The Autism Think Tank is a Unique Non-Profit Medical center that broughtogether world renowned Medical Experts via Tele-Medicine
- Co-Founded al program known as Autism Escapes, a Non-Profit network of Private Jet Owners who fly patients with Autism around the country to seek more Specialized forms of Medical care at no cost to their families.
- Co-Founded the Mount Bethel Village, the First Supportive Residential Housing for adults with Autism and Developmental Disabilities (located in Warren, NJ).
