She graduated summa cum laude from the competitive 7-year BA/MD program at Rutgers University, where she was also a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Xia completed her residency in Ophthalmology at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, publishing over 10 peer-reviewed articles and presenting at numerous regional, national, and international ophthalmic conferences.
Dr. Xia further honed her skills during a two-year fellowship in Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery at the esteemed Scheie Eye Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. There, she specialized in diagnosing and treating diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and ocular inflammatory conditions, alongside comprehensive vitreoretinal surgery. Dr. Xia is particularly focused on sutureless scleral-fixated intraocular lenses, retinal detachment repairs, and macular hole surgeries. Her research interests include exploring new pharmacologic treatments for both dry and wet macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease, particularly the latest advancements in treating wet age-related macular degeneration and geographic atrophy.
As one of the few fellows in the nation experienced in intraocular gene therapy and sub-retinal drug delivery, Dr. Xia is recognized for her surgical expertise in secondary intraocular lens implants and managing cataract surgery complications, making her a valuable resource in New Jersey’s ophthalmology community.
Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Dr. Xia is now accepting new patient consultations for both medical and surgical retinal disorders at her Livingston and Morristown offices.
