James A. Charles, MD, FAAN, FAHS
With over four decades of experience, Dr. Charles is a board-certified neurologist specializing in Clinical Neurophysiology, Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and Headache Medicine. He has been in practice since 1982 and is known for his comprehensive approach to diagnosing and treating complex neurological conditions.
Dr. Charles earned his B.S. in Biology from St. Peter’s College in 1974, followed by his Doctor of Medicine degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in 1978. He completed his medical internship at Hackensack University Medical Center and went on to complete his Neurology residency at University Hospital Health System, where he served as Chief Resident in 1982.
Board-certified in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Charles also holds subspecialty certifications in Headache Medicine (UCNS), Clinical Neurophysiology, and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. His clinical expertise spans a wide range of neurological disorders, with a particular focus on diagnostic precision and long-term patient care.
Dr. Charles currently serves as a Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, where he has been an adjunct teaching faculty member since 1985. He is affiliated with Holy Name Medical Center and is fluent in both English and Spanish, allowing him to serve a diverse patient population with compassion and clarity.
