Dental Implants
Dental implants are changing peoples lives! Implants have been around since the 1940’s but have been perfected over the last 25 years. They are not experimental or a new technology at this stage and are here to stay. Implants are essentially an artificial tooth root made out of titanium or titanium alloys. They are surgically placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing.
A dental implant requires teamwork. First, Dr. Miller who has advanced training in implants and has been placing them since 1985, places the implant into the bone. It usually takes about three months of bone healing where the implant fuses to the bone. In some cases there may be inadequate bone to place the implant. There are several surgical procedures that may be necessary utilizing bone grafting techniques to augment the site where the implant will be placed. In these cases, longer healing time is required.
Gum Grafts
Soft tissue grafting can improve your smile. Grafts are used to treat recession, sensitivity and esthetic concerns. These are simple, predictable and relatively painless procedures with beautiful and long lasting results.
It involves a minimally invasive surgical procedure in which gum tissue is taken usually from the palate and placed over the exposed root. A band aid is placed over the site and home care and eating is done on the other side of the mouth for one week. Healing occurs in a few weeks.
These procedures are done to stop further recession and improve esthetics. If your teeth are sensitive to cold and are getting longer, giving the appearance of old age, this procedure is indicated to prevent future problems.
Dr. Miller is an expert in the field of gum grafting and has done thousands of grafts. All of her patients are pleasantly surprised how easy the procedure is and how beautiful their smiles become.
