In the United States, June is designated as PTSD Awareness Month and June 27th is the specific day designated for National PTSD Awareness. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition experienced by 7- 8% of the population. About 8 million American adults will have PTSD during any given year – which is only a small portion of those who’ve suffered through a traumatic event. A traumatic event is defined as any experience that threatens your life or safety, or if you witness something horrible happening to someone else. For example, here are a few types of traumatic events that could lead to development of PTSD: Military combat Sexual Assault Physical Assault Child Abuse Serious Car Accidents Natural Disasters (Hurricanes, Fires, Tornadoes, Floods, Earthquakes, Etc.) Ingredients: 5 tablespoons olive oil, divided 2 tablespoons sherry vinegar 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, divided 3/8 teaspoon kosher salt, divided 1 1/2 cups sliced fresh peaches (about 2 medium) 1 (12-oz.) pkg. broccoli slaw 3 (6-oz.) skinless, boneless chicken breasts, cut crosswise into 1-in. strips 1/4 cup barbecue sauce 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives 1 ounce feta cheese, crumbled (about 1/4 cup) 2 center-cut bacon slices, cooked and crumbled Preparation: Combine 4 tablespoons oil, vinegar, 1/4 teaspoon pepper, and 1/4 teaspoon salt in a large bowl, stirring with a whisk. Add peaches and slaw to vinegar mixture; toss gently to coat. Sprinkle chicken evenly with remaining 1/4 teaspoon pepper and remaining 1/8 teaspoon salt. Heat remaining 1 tablespoon oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken to pan; cook 6 minutes or until done. Place chicken in a large bowl. Add barbecue sauce to bowl; toss. Divide slaw mixture evenly among 4 plates; top evenly with chicken strips. Sprinkle with chives, feta, and bacon.

Born and raised in Park Ridge, New Jersey, Dr. Michael Betsy graduated from Don Bosco Prep in 1990 and was Class Salutatorian. He earned Varsity letters in football and ice hockey and served as team captain in both sports in his senior year. He was inducted into the National Honor Society as a sophomore, was an active member of the school’s Peer Ministry program and was involved in student government, serving as Senior Class President. In his senior year he was a Bergen Record ‘Scholar of the Week’ and was named by the Bergen Record as one of the Top 25 Local College Football Prospects. He received the Distinguished Athlete Award from The United States Marine Corps and was a recipient of the school’s prestigious Ironman Award.
